Interesting letter from his ashram in Ahmedabad, about his diet, weaving, and advice on manual work and reading. He hopes that his friend will no longer suffer after leaving the shores of England. The best way to lose weight is to cut down on food. Now absorbed in hand weaving, he tends to revert to one meal a day. Two seed meals don't work for him. He's just trying. He recommends to his friend, instead of doing several things at once, to perfect himself in things that will be useful in India, carpentry and hospital work... He has taught the boys to read Pilgrim's Progress (by John Bunyan) by translating and adapting it into the local language. They love it. It's a wonderful book. He advises his friend to read it again... ... " The best way to reduce weight is to reduce the quantity of food. As I am now absorbed in the hand loom work, I am inclined to go back to one meal per day. Two meals of grain stuff are not suitable for me. I am just trying. In stead of taking so many things at a time, how nice it would be if you were to perfect yourself in the things that useful for you in India. Carpentry seemed to me the best of all you mentioned. Hospital work everyone should know of course. I have learnt reading Pilgrim's Progress to the boys & translating it with vernacular adaptations. They thoroughly enjoy it. It is a wonderful book you should read it again "...
