Slight scuffs and stains, traces of soiling, tears on spine. Publisher's annotation: "Our age is rich in 'human documents', notes, diaries and memoirs. This is no coincidence: these days, a factual account of reality often seems more vivid and powerful than any artistic fiction. N. Sinevirsky's book is a "human document", but a very special kind of document. The author of the book is a "spy in the enemy camp", a man who managed to go into the very citadel of the Communist dictatorship and come back alive. We are referring to its intelligence and repression bodies, the NKVD and SMERSH. Mikhail Dmitrievich Mondich (pseudonym: Nikolai Sinevirsky, 1923-1968) was a Moscow-based Carpatho-Russian writer and politician, and an agent of the NTS (People's Labour Union of Russian Solidarists). In 1946, he fled to West Germany. In 1947, he arrived in Frankfurt am Main, where he forged links with the local branch of the NTS. At the suggestion of A. Trushnovich, a member of the NTS leadership, he published his memoirs in 1948 about his time at SMERSH, where he witnessed the torture and murder of people arrested by SMERSH.
