Lot no. 24
Monetiere/table top Spain or northern Italy, 17th century In ebonised wood, richly decorated with gilded plaques with phytomorphic and grotesque motifs, applied to the drawer fronts and side panels. The parallelepiped cabinet rests on turned feet and has two side handles. The interior is divided into several small drawers, arranged around a central compartment concealed by an opening flap, which holds further secret drawers. Each drawer is fitted with a ringed spout, some ornamented with gilded lion masks. The top and sides are divided into panels with decorations consistent with the style of the period. This is a typical example of late Renaissance and Baroque production, intended for the storage of precious objects, medals, documents or jewellery.
