Lot no. 157
MONT EMILIUS. Memorable ascents to Mont Pie in 1871, published by an association of young tourists. Aosta, printed by J. B. Mensio, 1872. 2 volumes in-8°, stapled, blue and yellow printed covers. A very rare work describing the ascents of Mont Emilius (3,559 m) in the Gran Paradiso massif. It was the canons of Aosta who suggested calling it Mont Pie, in honour of Pope Pius IX, a name that has not become popular, unlike Emilius , given in memory of Emilie Argentier, who was the first woman to climb it in 1839. Ex-libris glued to the back covers.
