Lot no. 152
MONTESQUIEU. Lettres persanes. Paris, Didot l'aîné, 1782. 3 volumes in-18, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, spine decorated with small irons, inner lace, gilt edges (David). A charming and rare edition of the collection of the Comte d'Artois, "which will always be ranked among the Didot masterpieces", according to Brunet. It is said that only a hundred copies of each of the thirty-five titles were printed, sixty of which were reserved for the king's brother. This prince's coat of arms adorns the title. A very fine copy, finely bound by David.
