Lot no. 175
MONTESQUIOU Count Robert de (1855-1921). Les Hortensias bleus. Paris, Charpentier et Fasquelle, 1896; in-12 paperback, illustrated cover, black morocco spine folder, slipcase (Patrice Goy).
First edition of this collection dedicated to Gabriel de Yturri, Montesquiou's secretary, companion and faithful friend. It was the source of a serious quarrel between Lorrain and Montesquiou, the former having published a nasty pun in the Journal in 1896: "Mort, Yturri te salue, tante" ("Death, Yturri greets you, aunt").
One of 10 on Japon, n°4, particularly fresh (Talvart and place do not describe a large paper).
Precious autograph letter from the author to Don Gabriel de Yturri "in testimony and memory of a rare and indissoluble pact for beauty and goodness".
Talvart et Place, XIX, p. 314, 5a.
