MONTIGNY (Charles de). Manuel du négociant français en Chine, ou Commerce de la Chine considéré au point de vue français. S.l.n.n., 1846. Large in-8, purple half calf, spine decorated with double gilt fillets, speckled edges (contemporary binding). Very rare first edition of this work on the new possibilities for trade with China opened up by the Franco-Chinese treaty of Whampoa. He brought back a sumptuous collection of Chinese antiques and objets d'art. The volume is illustrated with two fold-out lithographed plans of Canton and Macao. Signature of M. Fleury Ibézard (?), banker in Paris, at the top of the title. Hinges worn, headbands faded.
