Enamelled brass onion-shaped pocket watch decorated with a gallant scene in a Rocaille cartouche, mechanical movement with cock-key winding, signed BAILLON, Louis XV period. The glass is missing, the enamel on the dial is chipped, and the enamel is worn and missing. Watchmaker in Paris but probably descended from the family of watchmakers of this name in Rouen since the late seventeenth century. He was received as a master's son in 1727. He was watchmaker and first valet to Queen Marie Leszczynska in 1751, then to the Dauphine Marie-Antoinette.
