Monumental Meissen lidded vase with hunting scenes. after J. E. Ridinger
Ovoid body over a flared round foot with rounded shoulder and offset, short neck. Domed, overhanging lid with gold-ornamented cone finial. Gold-contoured oval reserves surrounded by foliage on both sides of the wall and on the lid with stag hunting scenes against a forest backdrop after Johann Elias Ridinger. On the obverse, a large-scale scenic depiction of par force hunters on horseback and a pack of hunting hounds, taking down a red stag. After the model of Ridinger's engraving "The Stag presents himself, and fights off the Hounds!" (SKD, Kupferstich-Kabinett, inv. no. A 12282). The reverse depicts a scene with a stag struck down by hounds. In between a large branch of oak leaves in matt gold with a finely etched inner drawing. The lid with corresponding scene and hunting motif with French horn and hunting bag. Polychrome painting. Model no. 51115, crossed swords mark. H. 64 cm.
