Lot no. 3
Monumental Meissen unique mural "Orient" with scenes from 1001 Nights by Wolfgang Wachs Rectangular panel on wood. Mirror-filling scenic depiction from "1001 Nights". In the courtyard of his moonlit palace, the sultan sits relaxed, cross-legged on fine fabric, next to a fountain. He is attended by his servants, who are preparing him for the night with musical performances, a basket of fruit and smoking a water pipe. Fine polychrome overglaze painting with sparse gold decoration. Designed and executed by Wolfgang Wachs, 2004, signed "W. Wachs 2004" with date; certificate no. 628 from the Meissen porcelain manufactory and a copy of the correspondence with a brief description of the depiction by Wolfgang Wachs enclosed. Centre of gravity mark. 56 cm x 63 cm. With "1001 Nights", Prof. Heinz Werner developed one of the most important decors of Meissen Modernism, which Wachs takes as his model. Werner's oriental worlds refer to the beginnings of Meissen's painterly decorative design under J. G. Höroldt and his utopian chinoiseries. Often applied freely and without reserves in a loose style, Werner transfers the traditional decorative scheme into the 20th and 21st centuries. Cf. Meissen Manuscripts, Special Issue IV, Visions. Heinz Werner - Dekore auf Meissener Porzellan, 1993, p. 19 ff.; Cf. certificate: "The painting was a much admired highlight of the Lebensart exhibition at Infa 2004 in Hanover". A large porcelain wall plaque with decor "1001 night" painted and signed by W. Wachs. Unique work. Certificate included. Decor descriptions from the artist. Crossed swords mark. Meissen. 2004.
