This eagle is said to have come from a 1st Empire pennant and was referenced in the archives of the Napoleonic Museum in Monaco by a certificate dated 1912 from Madame Henri Bodinus née Hoffschmidt, who stated that the eagle had been picked up on the Waterloo battlefield in 1815: "This eagle was picked up on the Waterloo battlefield. It has remained in my family as a souvenir ever since. Monaco 26 January 1912. C. Bodinus née d'Hoffschmidt".
Biography :
Traces have been found of Madame Camille Bodinus, née d'Hoffschmidt, a great cousin of the Belgian hermit of the same name. She lived in Brussels at the end of the century.
