MOULINIÉ (Charles Etienne François). Sermon delivered in Geneva on 28 June 1818 by Pastor Moulinié on the occasion of the flood which devastated the Bagne valley and the town of Martigny in Valais on 16 June. Genève, impr. de L. Sestié et fils, 1818. In-8°, modern muted boards. First edition. A very rare 23-page brochure recounting the terrible tragedy that followed the collapse of the Gietroz glacier, which blocked the Bagnes valley and formed a lake. Despite the digging of a gallery to evacuate the water, the ice dam broke on 16 June 1818, causing a disaster that killed around fifty people. This sermon was included in Moulinié's book Promenades philosophiques et religieuses au Jura et à l'hospice du Grand St Bernard, faisant suite aux promenades aux environs du Mont Blanc, published in Geneva by L. Sestié in 1820.
Charles Etienne François Moulinié (Geneva 1757 - Carouge 1836), pastor of the Church of Geneva, made four trips to the Alps, including two to the Chamonix Valley (1814 and 1817). He was a member of the Besançon Academy.
