The edition is illustrated with an engraved title, a portrait of the author, 26 double-page maps numbered from I to XXVI at the beginning of the work and more than 1,400 woodcuts in the text, including many maps. Sebastien Münster (1488-1552) was a humanist scholar and cartographer from southern Germany. His Cosmography was the most famous work of topography of the 16th century. The work includes mountain regions, with varying degrees of accuracy; in the section on the Valais, Münster refers to glaciers.
