MUSÉE POUR RIRE (Le): Drawings by all the caricaturists of Paris. Text by Messrs Maurice Alhoy, Louis Huart and Ch. Philipon. Paris, Aubert, 1839-1840. 3 volumes in-4, long-grained red half-maroquin with corners, richly decorated smooth spine, gilt edges (A. Cuzin). Complete collection of this famous illustrated magazine, published in 150 four-page issues, each adorned with a full-page caricature.
The set includes 148 lithographs after Daumier, Gavarni, Bouchot, Adam, Pigal, Traviès and others, and 2 woodcuts after Grandville.
This collection is "one of the rarest of the Romantic period, especially with the lithographs of good colour" (Carteret).
An exceptional copy in which all the plates have been finely coloured and gummed, luxuriously bound by Adolphe Cuzin.
It is complete with the title, title and table leaves of the three volumes and the publisher's catalogue is bound at the end of the first and third volumes.
Hinges cracked in vol. III, one jaw cracked in vol. I, corners dulled, rare pale foxing.
