Mythological figurine group "The Birth of Venus" by Meissen
The goddess Venus rises from a foaming sea wave as a semi-nude figure in a gossamer robe enveloping her body, her headdress decorated with water lily blossoms and leaves. A naked boy floats at her feet. Polychrome painting with gold staffage. Designed by Friedrich Offermann, 1898, model no. R 124, slightly dam. / rest. H. 36 cm.
The sculptor Friedrich Offermann (1859 - 1913) was a master student of Ernst Hähnel in Dresden. He designed sculptures for public buildings, including the town halls in Dresden and Hamburg. Until 1909, the Meissen manufactory purchased various models by Offermann.
