NEAR EASTERN CHALCEDONY DUCK WEIGHT AND SEAL WITH PEGASUS Ca. 800 - 500 BC. A pair of objects carved from translucent bluish chalcedony. The first, on the left, is a stylised weight in the form of a duck, with a smoothly rounded body and the neck folded back along the spine. Folded wings are marked by a central ridge, and a short, curved beak projects forward. A circular perforation is drilled between the neck and the body. The second object is a stamp seal with a tapering body and a flat, oval base. A perforated knob surmounts the upper portion for suspension. The sealing face is engraved with Pegasus in profile, shown leaping with raised wings and extended limbs.
