Lot no. 52
Nested box in cocobolo wood and silver. From the Moxos or Chiquitos area. Upper Peru. Late 18th century.    Formed by an outer vessel containing four cylindrical carved wooden vases, with a flat base that fit one on top of the other, progressively decreasing in size. The main box has a lid with a silver top in the shape of an eagle's head, that closes the whole set, and inside it there is a second, smaller lid that closes the four vases.  The decoration of the set as a whole, which is incised and very exuberant, depicts elements of flowers and scrolls of vegetation.    Total size: 16 x 11 cm. Main vase: 8,5 x 7,2 cm. Smallest vase: 5,5 x 4,5 cm. .    The National Historical Museum of Santiago de Chile has a nested box in its collection which is almost identical to this one, but with more boxes (Inventory number: 2014-41377).
