NEVERS. Rare revolutionary plate with contoured rim with polychrome decoration, in the centre, of a standing soldier wearing a tricorne and carrying his sword. He is holding a standard with three fleurs-de-lis and the inscription "liberté". Flowers on the edge and blue fillet. (Restored chip on the rim). Late 18th century. Diameter: 23 cm. Note: this soldier is thought to be a French guard who took part in the storming of the Bastille and helped form the Garde Nationale. Provenance : - Pierre-Marie Sestié Collection. Featured in the "Faïence et objet révolutionnaire" exhibition (number 20), 4 February 1989, Conservatoire Gossec, Gagny. Expert : Manuela Finaz de Villaine
