NIGNON (Édouard). L'Heptaméron des Gourmets, ou les délices de la cuisine française. Paris, Imprimerie Malherbe, 1919. Large in-4, leaves, filled cover, printed front cover, red half-calf folder, ribbed spine, gilt fillet in the spine bands and lined slipcase. First deluxe edition of the most prestigious French cookery book, printed in an edition of 150 numbered copies. One of 120 copies on Japanese imperial paper, No. 47 printed for René de Knyff. Dedicated to the memory of the author's son, who was killed on 8 October 1914 on the Somme, the book is illustrated with a portrait of Nignon etched by J. Patricot and 7 full-page woodcuts after O.D.V. Guillonnet and Henry Varenne, wood-engraved by Jaraud; the text is ruled and decorated in sanguine. The seven days are presented by André Mary, Émile Godefroy, Laurent Tailhade, Guillaume Apollinaire, Henri de Régnier, Lucien Descaves and Fernand Fleuret. Each text is followed by recipes (620 listed in the table).
