Niki de Saint Phalle's love of colour is wonderfully demonstrated in the sculptures offered here at auction, both of which are unique pieces. The sculpture "L'oiseau amoureux" (lot 3446) from 1973 shows a fantasy bird, its body resplendent in vibrant colours. With its outstretched wings, the "bird in love" offers protection to a smaller black Nana, who lovingly embraces it. For the artist, the opulent, voluptuous female figures symbolise fertility, freedom and love. "Les patineurs (couple ailé)" (lot 3447) depicts a pair of ice skaters who appear to melt into each other in their intimate movement. It is striking that both the woman and the man are decorated with similar patterns and colours, embodying a deep bond. Die Plastik "L’oiseau amoureux" (Los 3446) aus dem Jahr 1973 zeigt einen Fantasievogel, dessen Körper in kraftvollen Farben erstrahlt. Mit seinen ausgebreiteten Flügeln bietet der "verliebte Vogel" einer kleineren schwarzen Nana, die ihn liebevoll umarmt, Schutz. "Les patineurs (couple ailé)" (Los 3447) stellt ein Schlittschuhläuferpaar dar, das scheinbar in inniger Bewegung miteinander verschmilzt. Augenfällig ist, dass sowohl die Frau als auch der Mann mit ähnlichen Mustern und Farben verziert sind, was eine tiefe Verbundenheit verkörpert. Statt eines Arms besitzt der Mann einen reich verzierten Flügel, der dem Paar Antrieb und Geschwindigkeit zu verleihen scheint.
