NIMCHA, Morocco, mid 19th century Large sabre of very fine quality. Fine single-throated steel blade, one-third gold damascened with scrolls on each side and on the back, inscribed 1272 (1855), and ﷴ عمل, Amal Mohamed, work of Mohamed. Hallmarked on each side on the forte with a stylised moon and star, Northern Moroccan workshop. Light horn handle with broad darker mottling on reverse. Silver ring inlaid with blue coloured enamel. Steel hilt with branches, gold damascened with decorative motifs and formulae. Leather scabbard on wooden core without fittings. Total length 103 cm, blade 86 cm. The scabbard is missing the fittings, the leather is worn and damaged. CNES expert: Sylvain Lamotte
