Lying Nymph French School, mid-19th century Oil on canvas 130 x 189 cm The painting most probably depicts a reclining nymph, interpreted according to the canons of 19th-century French academicism, with clear romantic suggestions in the poetic rendering and evocative atmosphere of the composition. It is worth noting the existence of a smaller version, executed on copper support and depicting the same subject, which recently appeared on the antiques market and is attributed to Narcisse Diaz de la Peña, a leading artist of the Barbizon school.Work presented in a contemporary frame
