NOEL (Baptist Wriothesley). Notes of a Tour in Switzerland, in the summer of 1847. London, James Nisbet and Co, 1848. In-8°, bound in havana half calf with corners, false ribbed spine with title-piece, marbled edges. Rubbing, top bind damaged (Binding of the period). Uncommon first edition of this account of a British traveller in Switzerland (mainly in the Bernese Alps), illustrated with a lithographed and watercoloured illustrated title and 7 lithographed and watercoloured out-of-text views. Ex-libris Peter Obergfell affixed to the flyleaf. The first two leaves are partially detached (by 5 cm at the foot). A rare copy in colour. Baptiste Wriothesley Noel (Edinburgh 1798 - Stanmore 1873) was an English clergyman. He was minister of St John's Chapel, Bedford Row, London, from 1827 to 1848, then became Baptist minister at John Street Baptist Church, Bloomsbury. He was twice President of the Baptist Union.
