Nouveau Réalisme (i.e. Chr. Javacheff) Christ 10 Million Oil Drums Wall, Project for the Suez Canal. (5 serigraphs) 1972. 3 colour serigraphs and 2 b/w serigraphs after a photograph and a map respectively. Each on Bristol board. Sheet dimensions 70.5 x 55.3 cm each. 2 colour serigraphs each signed and numbered or inscribed "A/P". - Edges bumped. Light stains and traces of storage in places, also verso. Partial slight paper abrasion as trace of former mounting. Good overall. Excellent impressions of the full-format depictions. Schellmann 56 - 58 - 1 sheet one of 5 artist's proofs outside the edition, 1 sheet one of 70 copies. - Without the text sheet by Werner Spies and the cassette. - Published by Fischer Fine Art, London. - Printed by Hans-Peter Haas, Stuttgart. - The idea for the project arose in 1967 in connection with the Egyptian-Israeli Six-Day War, which also centred geographically around the strategically important Suez Canal. Christo's idea was to arrange a wall of floating oil drums that would block the canal and lead to a de-escalation between the Israeli forces on the one side and the Egyptian and Yemeni soldiers on the other. 10 Million Oil Drums Wall, Project for the Suez Canal (5 silkscreens).
