Type GDR (Gratia Dei Rex). The Edict of Pîtres of 25 June 864 instituted a new type of coinage from the following 1 July. Article XII stipulated that coins would only be minted in a certain number of workshops: Le Palais, Quentovic, Rouen, Reims, Sens, Paris, Orléans, Chalon [sur-Saône], Melle and Narbonne. A single type is planned: the legend Gratia dei Rex surrounding the monogram of Karolus and on the other side the name of the city around a cross.
