Works. Paris, Amyot & Plon, 1854-1856. 4 vol. in-8 (24 x 15,2 cm), raspberry glazed calf, double fillet and angular fleurons on covers, ribbed spines richly decorated with gilt interlacing, the numeral "N" and imperial bees, green and lemon morocco title-pieces, gilt heads (J. Leighton, Brewer St.). A fine collective edition, published during the author's lifetime. It includes the following works in particular: L'Idée napoléonienne (The Napoleonic Idea), Des Idées napoléoniennes (Napoleonic Ideas), Fragments historiques (Historical Fragments), a number of speeches, proclamations and messages, as well as letters and various pieces collected under the title Mélanges (Mixed Works). This is a copy in a delightful English binding in raspberry calf embossed with the imperial symbols. Bindings rubbed, corners dulled, a few scuffs and stains, title-piece of vol. I slightly missing, covers of vol. III partially split and the second one pierced, small lifting of the leather on the second back cover of vol. II. A few notes in pencil. Freckles, tiny marginal wetnesses and a few creases, more important in vol. III, of which the last 100 leaves have a small hole. Provenance - Arthur G.
