"Solitude" is oil on panel and measures 23 1/2 x 26 inches. It is signed by the artist in the lower right corner. This work was purchased at The Johnson Galleries, Chicago, Illinois by the family of the current owner. Slight frame abrasions visible along left edge. Under UV, no evidence of restoration or retouch. Appears in good condition Hovsep Pushman (American, 1877-1966) Hovsep Pushman was born on May 9th, 1877 in Armenia. At the young age of eleven, Pushman began to study at the Imperial School of Fine Arts in Constantinople. A few years later, his family immigrated to Chicago where he continued his studies at the Art Institute of Chicago, studying Chinese culture and Asian art. Later he moved to Paris to study at the Académie Julian under Jules Joseph Lefebvre, Tony Robert-Fleury and Adolphe Déchenaud. Pushman exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he won the Bronze and Silver medals. His work is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Boston's Museum of Fine Arts, Seattle Art Museum, San Diego Art Institute, Houston Art Museum, and Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
