OLMEC JADE MASK Ca. AD 800. A mask carved from pale green jade. The face is symmetrically modelled with a broad forehead, rounded cheeks, and flat ears. Narrow eyes are incised, and a straight nose with flaring nostrils rises above full lips. Small drilled perforations are placed at the inner and outer corners of the eyes, within each nostril, at the corners of the mouth, and at the temples.
