For underwater applications, the minute is the most important indicator. Therefore, the minute hand is disproportionately large and clearly visible. The short, orange central second hand has no other purpose than to check whether the watch is running. The solid steel case is a front-loading monocoque design. The thick mineral glass of the prototype consists of two separate parts that have been securely joined together. This made it easier to produce the complicated shape of the crystal profile. The glass itself is secured to the case from above by a screwed ring, which is concealed by the bezel. The crown (with split stem) is located on the left side of the case to prevent unwanted tampering underwater while allowing free movement of the wrist. Whereas the back of the case was curved in later prototypes and commercial models to improve ergonomics, this early prototype has a flat case with a grooved, non-slip back. In mid-1968, a Seamaster prototype ‘Proplof 0’ was delivered to COMEX for use in the ‘Hydra I’ project. Das massive Stahlgehδuse ist eine Frontlader-Monocoque-Konstruktion. Das dicke Mineralglas des Prototyps besteht aus zwei getrennten Teilen, die anschlieίend sicher miteinander verbunden wurden. Auf diese Weise konnte die komplizierte Form des Kristallprofils einfacher hergestellt werden. Das Glas selbst wird durch einen verschraubten Ring von oben am Gehδuse befestigt, der von der Lόnette verdeckt wird. Die Krone (mit geteilter Welle) befindet sich links vom Gehδuse, um unerwόnschte Eingriffe unter Wasser zu vermeiden und gleichzeitig eine freie Bewegung des Handgelenks zu ermφglichen. Wδhrend die Rόckseite des Gehδuses bei den spδteren Prototypen und den kommerzialisierten Modellen zur Verbesserung der Ergonomie gebogen war, verfόgt dieser frόhe Prototyp όber ein flaches Gehδuse mit einer gerillten, rutschfesten Rόckseite. Mitte 1968 wurde eine Seamaster Prototyp "Proplof 0" an die COMEX geliefert, um im Rahmen des Projekts "Hydra I" eingesetzt zu werden.
