Jürgen Brodwolf's work is strongly characterised by existential and cultural-historical themes. It moves between drawing, painting, sculpture and installation and mostly draws on fragmented, archaic body forms. Brodwolf is best known for the tube figures he developed in the 1950s, which he moulded from empty paint tubes and incorporated into his paintings. In addition to his tube figures, he also worked with plaster, lead and found objects, which he used in his assemblages. Our sheet shows a sketch of a figure which, according to Brodwolf's handwritten note on the sheet, was inspired by Oskar Schlemmer's Little Ballet and dates from 1974.
