By 2012 it was inoperative, since 24.10.2012 it is fully functional again and ready to go. The car is in unrestored original condition. The Opel Manta 400 broad-built version was shipped from the factory with GFL elements such as the hood, the front and rear fenders as well as front bumper. Opel Manta 400 broad-built version The Manta 400 was introduced in March 1981 at the Geneva Motor Show: It was the successor of the successful rally vehicle Ascona 400, in which Walter Röhrl becam Drivers' World Champion in 1982. The Manta 400 was actually a pure race car, but it had to be offered in small quantities for the regular market due to motor sporting regulations of group B at that time. The Manta 400 was powered by a 2.4-liter engine with light alloy cylinder head, four valves per cylinder and double overhead camshafts that Opel developed with the support by Cosworth. The 960 kg light rally car contributed standard 144 hp, depending on the configuration, it could also be up to 275 hp. Disc brakes on all wheels (front ventilated) and limited slip differential was included. The Manta 400 was built until 1984. 245 copies were built. The buyer could select between the so-called ‘narrow’ body or the rally broad-built version with GRP fenders to the front carriage and fender flares also made of GRP to the rear wheel arches (below 100 in the broad version, one talks of 59 pieces by the factory). The broad-built version also involved a change of tires on the rear axle up to a size 285 tire on a Ronal 15"rim, on the front axle a size 225 tire was installed. The mixed tires and the flared fenders were making the car look very brawny and martial.
