Garrison 260. - DSB VII, 298. - Pioneering treatise in the field of optics, including the first scientifically correct description of myopia. With this treatise, Kepler established the terms "lens", "meniscus" and "prism" in the optical discourse. - Provenance: Rudolph Graf von Abensperg und Traun, Austrian aristocracy, with his engraved illustrated ex libris using the family coat of arms on the front pastedown. - Missing the folded engrav. The folded copper plate with the various anatomical illustrations of the eye and the nn. Leaf with the corresponding explanations. - Title page with wormhole, trimmed at margins (without loss of text) and remounted on old laid paper. - First and last quires partly loosened, headpiece more heavily trimmed, though without loss of text.
