Lot no. 8
Ornaments for the Kaiser's carriage / Austria
Ornaments for the Kaiser's carriage, metal "crown" plate affixed to velvet and intertwined letters F, +/- 12 x 12 cm. Note: The ornament is accompanied in its case by a note written on a typewriter. Translation: This star is a decorative accessory from an imperial carriage destroyed by a shell bursting over Schönbrunn Palace during the fighting in April 1945. This ornament was found and preserved by a soldier of the British Army of Occupation in the rubble of the carriage, which was the only casualty of the fighting. This star may be the only remaining piece of the carriage, as the fragments were considered impossible to restore and were created from the remaining rubble.
