Complete Marian liturgical ornament, Lyon, circa 1890-1900, Semi-Gothic chasuble in gold filé brocade with bouquets and scrolls of foliage, probably from the Manufacture Truchot in Lyon. Neo-Gothic orphreys in wine-red velvet applied with scrolls and rosettes, the centre of the cross with angel musicians framing a Virgin and Child in majesty, at the foot of the cross the angel Gabriel. The embroidery is in polychrome silk embroidered in oriental stitch and split stitch and in gold thread on the couching in imitation of bare gold. Chalice veil with cherub figure, matching purse, stole and manipule, silk braid edging the whole (very slight wear). RMH
