GILDED AND PATINATED BRONZE GRANDFATHER CLOCK WITH SATYRS, FRANCE CIRCA 1830 A delightful gilt and patinated bronze and statuary white marble grandfather clock. The sculptural group depicts two small satyrs, intent on carrying a grape harvest litter, on which is placed a machine embraced by vine leaves, bunches of grapes and a panther-skin apron, an animal sacred to the god Dionysus. Also a Dionysian element are the thyrsuses that act as the sedan chair's stanchions. Suspended on the canopy of grapes is a drinking amphora with a loop and pods. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, burnished steel hands, 15-day movement, with hour and half-hour strike on bell. Clock complete with pendulum, to be serviced.
