GILT BRONZE GRANDFATHER CLOCK, DEPICTING THE ALLEGORY OF FORTUNE, FRANCE CIRCA 1810 An elegant gilt bronze and finely chased pendulum clock, depicting the Allegory of Fortune. Tiche, accompanied by a large anchor, benevolently watches over the machine surmounted by a rich cornucopia. On the left, other symbols of good fortune and prosperity enrich the scene, as does the landscape bas-relief enclosed in the base plinth, alluding to good fortune in travel. Gilded metal dial with Roman numerals, Breguet-style hands in burnished metal, 15-day movement, with hour and half-hour strike on a bell, part-wheel system. Movement in need of overhaul.
