Lot no. 354
GILDED BRONZE PENDULUM CLOCK WITH ALLEGORICAL CHARIOT, FRANCE CIRCA 1810 A gilded and finely chased bronze pendulum clock in the guise of a chariot drawn by two fawns. In all probability, the figure driving the chariot is Diana, immortalised in the momentum of the race, also emphasised by the puffs of rainbow light escaping from the motion of the wheel, concealing the mechanism. The base is monumental, with a plinth decorated with rich applications of symmetrical pilasters. Important knurled feet support the case as a whole. White enamel band dial with Roman numerals, burnished steel hands, pendulum movement with anchor escapement, silk-wire suspension, light pendulum, hour and half-hour chime on bell, with part-wheel. Watch to be overhauled, winding key missing. H. 44 cm, W. 33 cm, D. 16 cm. GILT BRONZE PENDULUM CLOCK WITH ALLEGORICAL CHARIUM, FRANCE CIRCA 1810
