OROSE (Paul). [Historiæ adversus paganos]. Venice, Ottaviano Scoto, 1483. In-folio, half-brown basane with corners, spine decorated, smooth edges (Early 19th century binding). Third edition of the first Christian universal history, written by Paul Orose around 416 at the request of Saint Augustine. The work had a considerable influence on medieval historiography. It was first printed in Augsburg in 1471 by Johann Schüssler, then in Vicenza around 1475 by Hermann Liechtenstein. A precious Venetian incunabulum, printed in Roman script. The copy has not been rubricated, with the exception of the first pages. The margins contain numerous old handwritten annotations (sometimes cropped). Missing the initial blank leaf (a1), pale spotting and a few scattered freckles, wormholes not serious, missing the corner of one leaf (f5), marginal repairs to the last leaf (n4).
