Provenance Gertrud Stohner, Mannheim; Private collection, Rhineland-Palatinate In 1925 Oskar Moll was appointed director of the academy of fine and applied art in Breslau. Moll remained head of this successful art school until it was closed for political reasons in 1932. Within his own artistic development, a change in stylistic expression can be observed during the same period. The artist sought a more meticulous structuring of the pictorial space as well as a clear and constructive two-dimensional composition; presumably through his wife, the sculptor Marg Moll, he found a model for this in the late Cubism of French artists such as Fernand Léger, Louis Marcoussis and Jean Metzinger. The “Komposition mit Fruchtschale” exemplifies this stylistic period in Moll's work. Particularly the space surrounding the picture's central motif is carried out according to a Cubist understanding of form. Provenienz Gertrud Stohner, Mannheim; Privatsammlung Rheinland-Pfalz 1925 wurde Oskar Moll zum Direktor der Breslauer Akademie für Kunst und Kunstgewerbe ernannt. Die Leitung dieser erfolgreichen Kunsthochschule hatte Moll bis zu deren politisch motivierten Schließung 1932 inne. Innerhalb seiner eigenen künstlerischen Laufbahn lässt sich für den gleichen Zeitraum eine Veränderung des stilistischen Ausdrucks beobachten. Der Künstler strebte eine stärkere Durchgliederung des Bildraumes und eine klare, konstruktive Flächengestaltung an und fand - wohl über seine Frau, die Bildhauerin Marg Moll - ein Vorbild im späten Kubismus französischer Künstler wie Fernand Legér, Louis Marcoussis und Jean Metzinger. Die „Komposition mit Fruchtschale“ steht exemplarisch für diese Stilperiode Oskar Molls. Insbesondere der Raum um das zentrale Bildmotiv herum ist in kubistischer Formauffassung ausgeführt.
