Otto Tarnogrocki (1875 Lobsens/Province of Poznan - 1946 Nienhagen near Rostock) Lakescape Impressionist work by Tarnogrocki, who belonged to the artists' colony in Schwaan. The painter studied at the Royal School of Art in Berlin from 1893, moving to Franz Bunke's art school in Weimar in 1894. The latter travelled with him and other students several times to Schwaan in Mecklenburg, where an artists' colony had developed at the end of the 19th century. Tarnogrocki completed his artistic training at the art academy in Stuttgart under Carlos Grethe and in Paris at the Académie Colarossi. In 1905, the artist moved to Szczecin, but remained in contact with the Schwaan painters. A large part of his oeuvre was lost during the Second World War, but the few surviving works show a considerable artistic level and that, in addition to landscapes, he painted cityscapes and harbour motifs in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in particular.
