Provenance
Former L. Benguerel collection, Barcelona, built up 1960-1970
Former J. Marti collection, Barcelona
The figure is shown standing, wrapped in a tight shroud forming a cylindrical sheath, with his arms crossed over his chest in the characteristic Osirian posture. The hands, schematically suggested, are holding agricultural implements (hoes) painted in black.
The face, finely modelled, has idealised features: almond-shaped eyes highlighted with black lines, painted arched eyebrows, straight nose, sketchy mouth. The expression is serene and hieratic. The head is topped with a tripartite wig with vertical stripes painted in black, symmetrically framing the face and falling to the shoulders. The hair is rendered with particularly careful parallel black lines.
At the centre of the body, a vertical column of black-painted hieroglyphs contains the name of the deceased owner Hori.
A New-Kingdom Faience Ushabti of Hori. Dynasty 19, c.1279-1213 BCE
The figure is depicted standing, wrapped in a tight shroud forming a cylindrical sheath, arms crossed over the chest in the characteristic Osirian posture. The hands, schematically suggested, hold agricultural implements (hoes) painted in black.
The face, finely modeled, displays idealized features: almond-shaped eyes outlined with black lines, painted arched eyebrows, straight nose, sketched mouth. The expression is serene and hieratic. The head is adorned with a tripartite wig with vertical striations painted in black, symmetrically framing the face and falling onto the shoulders. The rendering of the hair through parallel black lines is particularly refined.
On the chest, a broad wesekh collar (multi-strand collar) is represented by superimposed horizontal black lines, a decorative element typical of Ramesside iconography. At the centre of the body, a vertical column of hieroglyphs painted in black contains the name of the deceased owner, Hori.
