Pair of unusual and splendid centrepieces in silver, partly gilt. Round stand surrounded by rectangular godrons. A rising shaft in the shape of a tree trunk in the centre above a naturalistic ground with flowers and tree trunks, ending in a round capital with godrons and acanthus leaf decoration. The fully sculpted, extremely finely detailed figure of an eagle with slightly outstretched wings and plumage depicted in relief. Gilt base ring, capital and beak. Two applied garnet cabochons as eyes. Marked 800, maker's mark. Total weight approx. 4665 g. H. 53 cm. Cf. Scheffler, Hesse, no. 473a, ill. 547.
