Pair of splendid girandoles in the Louis XVI style. Silver. 5-light; trumpet-shaped, moulded stand, surrounded by tongue frieze-like fluting, flower calyxes and pearl frieze. Fluted, conical shaft surrounded by laurel leaf festoons in relief. Vase-shaped spout over a recessed shoulder with a laurel leaf wreath. Including a plug-in attachment with four outwardly curved candlestick arms richly decorated with volute and acanthus leaves and a conical baluster shaft rising in the centre, each ending in cylindrical spouts above wide eaves bowls. Marked, hallmark. Total weight approx. 6350 g. H. 55.5 cm. Provenance: from the important collection of the Frankfurt banking family von Bethmann, which grew over generations. Cf. Rosenberg, vol.
