Lot no. 1
Pair of large splendid picture panels with Orientaline by Meissen
Rectangular panels on wood. Mirror-filling and visually stunning depiction of a turban-wearing oriental woman emerging from a wildly interwoven sea of flowers and from the abstraction of the dress. Scenes designed in the style of the "1001 Nights" decor. Predominantly diffuse, polychrome, partly gold heightened painting. Decor designed by Prof. Heinz Werner. Distinguished by the sword mark. 52.5 cm x 35 cm.
Decor designer in Meissen since 1957, Werner founded the "Kollektiv Künstlerische Entwicklung" together with Ludwig Zepner and Peter Strang in 1960. In the course of his work, Werner designed around 100 modern Meissen decors such as the pioneering 1001 Nights and Midsummer Night's Dream decors. He also created numerous unique Meissen pieces and porcelain murals on and in public buildings. Werner undertook study trips, including to Finland and France. From 1978, Werner also taught as a professor at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design near Halle (Saale).
