PAIR OF COMMODES Louis XVI, Bern, c. 1780, attributed to Johannes Äbersold (1737-1812). Cherry inlaid in friezed rectangular reserves framed by cranked fillets with engraved rosettes. Rectangular body on a slightly cut-out frame and canted conical front legs with sabots and pyramid legs at the back. The front with two drawers without crosspieces between angled corners. The corner studs with central rosette in gilt bronze, framed by fillet-moulded longitudinal panels. Lined inside with paste paper, one chest of drawers pasted over with a later dark paper. Gilt brass fittings in the form of rosettes, the handles in the form of laurel wreaths. 92 × 60 × 88 cm. One key plate replaced. Break at the edge of the sheet. Some minor repairs and restorations. Some fading. Tears. This object marked with * (asterisk) is fully subject to VAT, i.e. VAT will be charged on the hammer price plus buyer's premium for these objects.
