Pair of Louis XIII walnut hall chairs. Trapezoidal frame on volute-shaped legs, connected underneath by strongly curved, cross-shaped bars. Corresponding supports for narrow, curved, rising armrests. High rectangular backrests with a curved upper end. Upholstered and covered on the front with petit and gros-point embroidery. In the centre, a large reserve with a figural scene surrounded by lush, stylised flowers. H. 112 cm. 67 cm x 74 cm. Seat h. 45 cm.
Provenance: Rudolf Mosse Collection. Auction Rudolph Lepke's Kunst-Auktions-Haus Berlin, 29 May 1934, lot 205-07. A fair and equitable solution was found between the consignor and Rudolf Mosse's rightful heirs in accordance with the Washington Principles of 1998.
