Pablo Picasso (1881 Málaga - 1973 Mougins) "Chope visage". Original title Ceramic (faience), 1959. Slender, slightly bulging jug in the centre with a short, elongated spout and thick eared handle. Light, slightly cream-coloured body, white pewter glaze, decoration with stylised female face in dark blue and dark red painting. Brush mark on the base with numbering "EDITION PICASSO 277/300 MADOURA", also impressed marks "EDITION PICASSO" and "MADOURA PLEIN FEU". H. 20.7 cm. Cf./Lit.: Alain Ramié: "Picasso. Catalogue of the Edited Ceramic Works 1947-1971", no. 432. White tin-glazed earthenware (faience) "Chope visage" tankard with dark blue and dark red decor (A. R. 432). Conceived by Picasso in 1959 and executed by the Madoura Pottery workshop in Vallauris in a numbered edition of 300. Marked and numbered "EDITION PICASSO 277/300 MADOURA" (painted in black), further impressed marks "EDITION PICASSO" and "MADOURA PLEIN FEU". France. Vallauris. Madoura workshop. 1959.
