Pablo Picasso (1881 Málaga - 1973 Mougins) "Picador". Original title Ceramic (faience), 1952, flat, round plate with stand ring. Light, slightly cream-coloured body, white pewter glaze, decoration with Picador in wax recess technique, painted black (or dark green-black). Edition of 500 unnumbered pieces. Brush mark with numbering "EDITION PICASSO" on the base, also impressed marks "EDITION PICASSO" and "MADOURA PLEIN FEU". D. 21.1 cm. Cf./Lit.: Alain Ramié: "Picasso. Catalogue of the Edited Ceramic Works 1947-1971", no. 160. White tin-glazed earthenware (faience) "Picador" plate with black painted decor in wax resist technique (A. R. 160). Conceived by Picasso in 1952 and executed by the Madoura Pottery workshop in Vallauris in an edition of 500.
