Rare work, no complete copy recorded at auction (RBH), illustrating through finely engraved allegorical medallions the deeds of Manuel Pinto de Fonseca (1681-1773) as Grand Master of the Order of Malta from 1741 to 1749.
4to (298 x 195mm). Title-page bearing the coat of arms of Emmanuele Pinto de Fonseca, 23 copper-engraved plates with medallions and text (some foxing). Bound in contemporary brown morocco, spine richly gilt, marbled endpapers (minor defects). Provenance: bookplate of Vincenzo Castelli, knight of the Order of Malta (18th century). (1)
