PAIR OF APULIAN RED-FIGURE VESSELS. Ca. 400 - 300 BC. A pair of red-figure pottery vessels, including a lekythos and a lekanis with its lid. The lekythos has a slender neck that widens into a flat, disc-shaped rim, and a pear-shaped body tapering to a small, flared foot. Vertical black lines accentuate the neck, while the shoulder is encircled by a wave pattern. The body is decorated with a left-facing portrait of a Lady of Fashion, depicted with delicate facial features and an elaborate hairstyle adorned with a sakkos. The reverse features a palmette motif enclosed within black-painted bands. The lekanis has a shallow, broad body with two opposing horizontal handles, resting on an elevated foot. Its slightly domed lid features a central knob and is decorated with two left-facing portraits of Ladies of Fashion, alternating with large palmette designs extending outward.
